We had on ice seats again which were fantastic as usual... we were 5 seats off of center ice, which was very cool. The place was I'd say close to 3/4 full... it's a small arena which is nice, and one reason why I'm sure they like coming there... it's easier to fill. There were advance ticket forms on the seats... mine is filled out and ready to be mailed in the morning... LOL!!!
Opening - Loverly Spring/I Would Do Anything for Love: Nearly had a heart attack when everyone came out and the lights came on, and I couldn't see where Todd was. I was looking frantically for him, and couldn't see him... I said "Mom where is Todd???? I don't see him out there!!!!" She very matter of factly said "Todd's sleeping on the ice over there." One of the other skaters had been blocking my view of him. I could tell people were wondering what the heck was going on with the fake opening... they weren't sure what to think of it... LOL!!
I liked that they had each skater or pair come out by themselves first and then did stuff as a group... one thing I wish they would've done was introduce them in the beginning. I liked the costumes for the real opening... the guys were very simple, but nice... the girls dresses were just beautiful... one thing SOI always seems to get right is the costumes... they are always so beautiful.
Alexei - Winter: Even though this is a recycled program, I really did enjoy it. I never had the opportunity to see it live when he competed with it so it was nice to be able to see it. One thing I noticed about Alexei.... he needs a haircut!!!! John Z can get away with long hair, but I don't like it on Alexei.
Yuka - Beanfields: I love Yuka's skating, but I really didn't care for this program. It just doesn't really do anything to highlight her skating in my opinion. She skated great, I just don't care for the music. Also.. didn't really care for her costume.. it was kinda strange. I was glad to see Yuka back on tour though and hope she is back again next year!!
Elena & Anton - You Are so Beautiful: What a beautiful program!! These two really connect with each other. She had a little problem on the throw jump, but other than that it was a beautiful program! The crowd was impressed with the leap of faith... lots of ooohs and aaaahs. You can tell they enjoyed their time in Florida.... they both had pretty nice tans going on... actually most of the cast had tans!
Jennifer Robinson - And the Beat Goes On: This was my first time seeing Jen in person.... she seems very tall for a skater. She had a little trouble with her jumps tonight. She seemed to be jumping a little close to the edge of the ice at times... it looked like she was going to land her salchow in our laps.... I'm wondering if maybe the ice surfaces in Florida were a little bigger.
Steven Cousins - Belfast Child: Yeah for SOI for finally giving Steven 2 cold spots!!!! I had never seen Belfast Child before... it was very good, but very strange to see Steven doing something serious. Nice to see that side of him too!!
Jamie & David - Elite Syncopations: What a different type of program for Jamie and David. It had a lot of interesting lifts and stuff in it... very complex!! You gotta love Jamie's facial expressions... she really sells her programs. She had a little problem on the throw jump too, but the program was fabulous!!!!
Alexander's Ragtime Band was next, but I'm going to save the Todd stuff for the end.
Cast - Dance Medley: What a fun program.... really enjoyed all the mini costume changes. When the guys had the pink shirts over their collar... toward the end of the program... Steven had his shirt unbuttoned about half way.. giving us a little something extra to look at ;) The rest of the guys had their shirts zippered up most of the way. Todd really was having a blast... making funny faces, and just always had a huge smile on his face!!!
Cast - Overture/Comedy Tonight: Another fun program! The cast was having a blast.
Elena & Anton - Chaplin Medley: What a completely different program from their first program! They do these types of programs so well... Anton especially... he's such a ham!!!! Elena kinda just goes along with him for the ride... LOL... but she has definitely opened up, and looks more comfortable doing these kind of things. The only thing I thought was odd about this program was the hip hop type stuff towards the end of the program... I thought that was kinda weird. Elena took a pretty nasty fall on the throw jump.... was glad to see her get up and continue.... those pairs' girls are something!!!
Steven - Superstition: He is just awesome!!! This was a great program... very fun!!! He really has so much charisma, his smile could light up an entire room!! Plus, he's just such a cutey patootie!!! I really was so glad to see him get the 2 cold spots... hopefully he'll be back again next year too!!!!! Mom really likes him too.
Jennifer - If it Wasn't for Your Love: A very pretty program... she had a much easier time with the jumps this time. She really is very pretty, and it was nice to see her. She seemed to get a better audience response after she skated then before... I don't think many casual fans knew who she was.... she was a nice addition to the cast.
Yuka & Jason - Get Here: Yuka starts out by herself and mom said "this is what we're used to seeing from her." She really is just a beautiful skater. I thought this was my first time seeing Jason, but now that I think about it I probably saw him on COI with Kyoko way back when... LOL. They really are very cute ogether... this was a very nice program. I am so impressed that Yuka has been able to learn pair skating, and that she's so good at it... she makes it look like she's been doing it forever. Kudos to Jason for doing a jump (I think it was a double axel, but I could be wrong... LOL) in the opening number.... he had a little trouble with it, but I give him a heck of a lot of credit for doing it... he probably hasn't done much jumping since he retired from eligible competiton.
Steven, Todd, David, John & Jen - Too Me Tango: I thought Jen played the part very well.... LOL. Mom noticed that at one point the rest of the guys did some sort of somersault with their suitcases while Todd did something different (we're guessing that's the move he hurt his shoulder on)... I didn't notice it because my eyes were pretty much on Todd most of the time. This was a really fun number... I wonder who it is based on, though I have a pretty good idea... LOL.
Alexei - Sway: We had seen this at Sarah Hughes and Friends, so I knew what to expect. We couldn't see where Alexei was coming from.. he ended up coming from behind us one section over. The crowd really enjoyed this program... I really wasn't that impressed... he skated it well, but just didn't really do anything for me.
Yuka - The Suite: This is where they show the video of the cast members who have passed away. Yuka's skating is beautiful... they couldn't have picked a better skater for this part of the show. At the end, they also showed video of the SOI kids... Gabe, Keara, Jack, Aidan, Daria, and Elizaveta... I may be leaving someone out. It was so cute when Aidan and Keara kissed... got an "awwww" from the crowd. When they showed Sergei's picture, some in the crowd started to clap. Between seeing Sergei, and all the skaters' kids... mom and I were both crying... LOL.
Kyoko & John - Vertigo: They finally got to skate their program... LOL!!!! Their programs are always jam packed with tricks, and this one was no exception!! They are very exciting... wish they would get two cold spots too... the crowd really loves them!!! So mom and I are sitting watching John and Kyoko skate.. minding our own business when I see John coming right at me... I didn't remember hearing about him ever sitting on someone's lap during their program, so I was a little confused. Well.... all of a sudden, he does a hockey stop and sprays us with ice!!!!! We were completely covered.... LOL!!!! It was pretty funny... we were hysterical.. cold, but hysterical!!! Mom's shirt was still a little wet when we got to the car.
This is where Todd's Bolero is... again, I'll get to that later!!!
Jamie & David - I Want to Know What Love Is: Another great program from Jamie and David skated with a lot of passion. They are just a beautiful couple on and off the ice!!
Cast - Sing, Sing, Sing: The finale already!!!! The show always seems to go by SO fast. I liked the music, though it seemed to be a little short for a finale. Loved the costumes... the girls dresses were beautiful. A very fun finale.. and the cast finally gets announced (actually happened before the music started). The gold medal for fastest costume change goes to Jamie and David... they really got out there in a hurry!!!
And now... the moment you've all been waiting for (and suffered for... LOL)... TODD!!!!!! Let me start by saying that if Todd's ankle is hurting, you really can't tell. He did pop 1 or 2 jumps (not that I care... he could skate in a circle for 5 minutes and I'd be happy), but the rest of his skating was fantastic. His spins were awesome as usual. During Alexander's Ragtime Band the part where Todd pretends to play the piano with his fingers (I hope I described that right) he was right in front of us... and afterwards, gave us a little wave and winked at us... that pretty much made our night right there.. LOL!!! Alexander's Ragtime Band is a really fun program, and Todd was having a blast out there with it. I'll admit when I first saw it on the World Team Challenge, I wasn't all that impressed with it, but having seen it on the Boitano show, and now in person, it really is a fun program!!!!!!! In fact, I can't get the song out of my head... I've been singing it all day... LOL!!!!!
Bolero was great as well. I have been hoping to see Todd skate to Bolero for awhile now, but figured it would never happen because of the history of the music with Torvill and Dean. I've actually had that as a ring tone on my phone for a couple years now!! Love that Todd started out by skating a figure... I think it gives it a nice touch. He was so serious when he was skating Bolero (a stark contrast to his expressions during :arb). I think I remember that Richard was the one who choreographed Bolero... very nice!!!!
The transition of Todd with the Scott puppet was hilarious.... Todd really has become quite the actor!!! We were laughing when Scott said something about telling a story about Todd Eldredge while waiting for the newest cast member of SOI and Todd put his hand over the puppet's mouth and left the ice... LOL!!!!!!
Overall I thought the show was good... not horrible like a lot of the reports from Lake Plalcid would have you believe. Was it the best show I've seen them do, no, (I'd say last year's "Imagination" show was the best of the ones I've seen) but I'm looking forward to seeing it again in April.. it looks like we're going to get to the show in Bridgeport, so that will be nice!!
