Stars on Ice - Sioux City, IA, 02/02/04
by Joelle

I didn't take photos and I didn't take notes, I just enjoyed my on ice seats.

I thought it was one of the best shows in a long time. I just loved all the pairs and ensemble skating. Yuka Sato was very smooth and did a wonderful pair routine with 3 of the guys.

Could of done without the weird filler numbers with the black and white costumes, but I guess they have to do something to give the other skaters time to change.

Highlights for me were both of Elena and Anton's numbers - though I especially liked Jelinka - reminded me of Irina and whatshisname back in 1980 something. I also really enjoyed Todd Eldredge skating to a male country version of a GFB, but it was so dramatic and he skated with such passion with at least one huge triple axel, maybe there was a second one, if not it was a gigantic double. He received a partial standing O -the only one other than Scott. Highlite for my daughter was a comedic dance number by Sale & Pellitier, I wonder if that wasn't chorographed by Dean. Had his touch.

Guest appearance by Katia Gordeeva, who skated very well, and Scott Hamilton. No more triples for him but he's the only one who did a lutz that night - (lots of triple toes and salchows) and lots of double axels and good skating. He got two standing Os.

There was some sexy skating, but you know with pairs, that's not a bad thing and it was an adult, sultry kind of sexy, not the silly stuff of Bezic.

Lots of ensemble skating with just the men, which was enjoyable - and an interesting number with brooms. Some might scoff and say "Enough with the props" but I enjoy the creativity and seing what you can do differently on ice and the guys all looked like they were having a good time.

This was the first time in Sioux City - we have a new event center. They were still selling tickets up until that night and plenty of empty cheap seats, but it seemed crowded enough trying to get there.

Oh yea, and Scott Hamilton shook my hand. I saw him coming down the row and was telling my daughter "Look he's coming over here" and I was so busy watching him that I turned my head and poor David Pelltier was standing right in front of me trying to shake my hand! I gave him a hearty "Great job" to make up for my ignoring him.
