I was at the Friday night Show of Stars on Ice when it stopped in Hartford, CT. The show was awesome, but I did have some disappointments about it. Since I do not know what the jumps are (except for an axle) I won't even tell you what jumps he did or did not do.
Todd was on all evening except for one "bauble" which I am completely blaming on my husband. He can be obnoxious and chose that evening and moment to do it. He kept saying miss miss (as in fall on your jumps, etc.) and finally Todd did. I chalk it up to bad husband charma and he would not have fallen if my husband had not been there.
He was the first one to come out and he looked so fine in his blue jeans and blue shirt. And he was having a very good hair day!
I really liked the first program, the jazzy piece, but felt it was lacking spark. I don't think it was on Todd's part but rather on the music part. I was not crazy about the choice of Misere. Todd was great at this, but it reminded me too much of his other Boccelli program. (Husband at this point kept asking why he can't do any rock/pop pieces.)
I loved watching Todd skate! The part he did with the gold pairs skaters was great, though husband (yes you can throw things at him now) asked me what he was mumbling about. Even though he was in the show quite a bit, I wish that they had him in the group men ensemble when they did the western number. It was a great program and thought he could have had fun with it.
As for the other skaters, they were great. I loved Ina and Zimmerman's Bon Jovi piece. They were so elegant and made me wonder why they never placed better than they did at big competitions when they were right on target. As far as the gold pairs went, I felt that they did not do enough to differentiate the two. They pretty much either skated together or one right after the other. I felt that this was unfair to them.
Todd got some very impressive audience participation (clapping, etc.), but no one got standing ovations till the end except for Scott Hamilton who was skating that night. He is always a fan favorite.
Now for my one "bonehead" move of the night. When we bought tickets last September (when they first went on sale to the public) I had a choice of on ice seats at one end or about 14th row center. I chose 14th row because I did not want to spend the money (the on ice seats were about $50 to 75 more). I have had front row seats before and it never did me a world of good for getting to "meet" any of the skaters. So why did this one night have to prove to be the exception. I would have seen all the ladies up close as they were all at that one end on the carpet of the on ice seats for one of their segments. I also would have gotten to see Kurt Browning and some of the other men this way. And even more important, I would have been in the very seats where Todd shook hands with the audience at the end of the show. Why oh why did this have to happen when I decided to be cheap? Oh well, I try not to dwell on it much. But it could have been a Marcia Brady moment (I will never wash this hand again)!
Anyway, this is my version of the happenings for the Hartford stop of SOI.
