Canadian Stars on Ice - Ottawa 5/2/02
by Naomi Starsiak

Just got back from Ottawa. I must say at the start, it was well worth the 5-hour drive.

I had an AMAZING seat on ice just off center. I got to see everything.

The night started with Lucinda Ruh skating, no spinning to “Superstar”. The speed she got on the spins was unbelievable. T.V. can’t convey it.

Next “Black Betty” and the first glimpse of Todd. He was wearing a black shirt with a neon handprint on it. I must admit I had some naughty thoughts about that handprint. :)

Then all the girls skating to “Lady Marmalade” it was the same as on the T.V. with Lucinda taking Tara’s place.

Kurt, Brian, and Alexei did “Tango (La Cumparsita)” It sort of struck me. They’re all about the same height and coloring. It seamed to be one man at different parts of his life.

Now the first appearance of Todd. “Lord of the Rings” was beautiful. Reminded me of why I love him so much. I t got the first standing O of the evening. But, I remember thinking that he kept coming really close to one of the corners.

Coming off the Todd high was Bourne & Kraatz with there “Michael Jackson Medley”. Being a home crowd the roar was defining.

Kurt’s “Guitar” was next. He trip it one part, but covered with a hand to mouth gesture. :)

Kristy and “Gold” she started out so nice but got to close to one of the lights. She ended up doing some sort of turn trying to avoid it.

The famous “Chair Tango” There was an old lady sitting next to me and it was so nice to listen to her going “Wow” for every move.

Brasseur & Eisler’s “Never Tear Us a Part” How did I miss this team the first time?? The lifts were inventive, the throws breath taking.

The “Vanity Tango (El Tango de Roxannae)” was nice. The best part was when the girls are sitting on them and Kristy said some thing asking the other girls about “what is the perfect man?” Some lady at the end of the arena yelled out “Kurt Browning” Kurt got the biggest smile and gave Brian and Todd S. a look of superiority.

The “Can-Can” was next and I must say I wasn’t paying to much attention. I had just spotted Todd across the rink watching from the players box.

Act 2 was mostly solos so I’ll hit the high points. “She Ain’t Pretty” I have seen Lloyd Eisler in a leopard print miny skirt and have lived to tell the tale.

Todd “Your Song” started out total Todd beautiful, elegant, posed, prefect. Then that stupid light got in his way right at the start of a jump. “Splat”. But two sec. later he was right back. And he got a bigger cheer then “LOTR”

Brian Orser skated to the soundtrack to “Somewhere in Time” such a classic program. And his back flip was gorgeous. I was torn between watching the ice and watching Alexei and Lucinda watch the ice.

Kristy was next with “Trust” but I was busy watching Todd coo-cooing Isabelle Brasseur’s baby. (Or some one’s baby that Isabelle was holding.)

“Elevation” Kurt was great going in to this but the same light that got Todd got Kurt. Kurt was doing footwork so his “splat” wasn’t as jarring.

The end medley started with Kristy, Lucinda, and Shae-Lynn skating to “Superstar” During this Alexei came out and stood right in front of me. God that man has a great ass. I couldn’t help my self “Nice View” came out before I knew what I was saying. But then Alexei turn and gave me that amazing smile of his. He got a great smile to. Before I could do any thing else Alexei skated out to do “Close to You” with Kristy. The facial expirations were great. And when Alexei fell on the ice at the end every one was laughing.

The one thing that really hit me was the ended. On T.V. I got the impression the Ilia, being the Gold medalist was the “leader”, so I thought the Alexei would take his place for the opening and the ending. Instead Todd was the one leading for “Top of the World” I had to smile at that. Some one knows that a Gold medalast isn’t everything. I had my little (8” by 11”) “TODD” sign out for the entire end and got a couple of smiles and a wink from Todd. My night was complete.
