This afternoon's performance was not one of Todd's better ones, jump-wise. He did execute a beautiful triple loop and a really nice triple toe loop, but the planned triple axel came out as a two-footed double and the lutz also turned into a double. However, neither of these "misses" interfered with the flow of the program or with Todd's ability to sell it to the assembled crowd with maximum effect. This was the ninth time I've seen this piece live and I was struck once again with how much of himself Todd really seems to put it into it - the audience is just sucked into his world with effortless ease. It's definitely a program I could see over and over again. The crowd greeted Todd with wild enthusiasm both before and after his skate.
With the addition of Aleksei Yagudin to the cast, he and Todd are now doing side-by-side triple toe loops during the closing ensemble number, and, since the two guys jump in opposite directions, this adds a very effective and visually dazzling element to the closing routine.
